Let's Grow: A Month Long Meditation Journey (Week 1)

  • Portland Yoga Collective 98 Cross Street North Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

“With each breath, we ease suffering and generate joy.  With each step, the flower of insight blooms” -Thich Nhat Hanh

Join Tara at the Portland Yoga Collective for an awakening month-long meditation journey rooted in the motivation to transform suffering into happiness stemming from compassionate and mindful practices.

Let’s Grow is an opportunity to learn meditation if you are a beginner, and to strengthen your practice if you are an experienced practitioner.

This series is an offering to experience collective mindfulness, joy and happiness and to manifest great insight and wisdom for yourself and for others.  You will connect with the community, meet other students and work closely with a teacher.

The entire series will incorporate various meditation techniques including shamatha, vipassana, yin/restorative yoga, pranayama and mantras/slogans.  Each week will vary in offerings of meditation techniques depending on the theme.

Week 1 Theme: The Seed

In this first class we will learn a basic seated meditation called Samatha meditation or “peaceful abiding”.  The class will focus on postural alignment, body relaxation,  gentle awareness of breath, and the seed syllable “OM”.  We will discuss setting intentions for a practice (the seed) and creating a fertile environment both physically and mentally for growth.

Students are encouraged to sign up for the entire series but are more than welcome to drop in for one, two or three classes.

Sign up for the whole series or for an individual class via Portland Yoga Collective.

Tara is a devoted meditation practitioner and has been practicing Tibetan Buddhist traditions her entire life.  She is passionate about teaching others to incorporate mindful techniques and awareness into their everyday life with compassion and gentleness towards themselves and others.  She creates a safe and supported place for her students to learn and to grow.  With a background in the arts, her classes aim to look at meditation with a lightness of creativity and joy.  She will be available outside of class to answer any questions during your journey.
